Lakhimpur Kheri violence : Priyanka Gandhi arrested

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, 11 others booked by UP Police for ‘disturbing peace’. Earlier on Monday morning, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was taken into preventive custody by the police while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 5 : Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been arrested by the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur. Priyanka was detained by the police on Monday morning when she was going to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of farmers who were killed in Sunday’s violence. Besides Priyanka Gandhi, state Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu, national secretary Dheeraj Gurjar, Youth Congress national president BV Srinivas, party MLC Deepak Singh were also taken into preventive custody. Earlier this morning, Priyanka tweeted a viral video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and asked why has the person behind the killing of four farmers have not been arrested while she has been under detention for 28 hours without an FIR. 

Her party alleged that drones were being used to monitor the movement of Priyanka at PAC guest house. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel tweeted a video of drones monitoring. “Who will take responsibility, whose drone is this and why,” he tweeted.

The Congress is alleging that she has been kept in illegal custody for 30 hours as she was taken in custody early on Monday morning in the Hargaon area in Sitapur.

Hundreds of Congress workers have been sitting outside the PAC guest house in Sitapur, waiting for their leader’s release.

Priyanka has said that as soon as she is released, she will proceed to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the bereaved families.

Priyanka Gandhi tweets viral video of SUV running over protesting farmers

Taking to Twitter, the Congress General Secretary demanded to arrest the accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, where 8 people, including 4 farmers, died on Sunday. “Narendra Modi sir, your government has kept me in detention for the last 28 hours without any order and FIR. But the person who crushed the farmers has not been arrested yet,” she tweeted in Hindi.
Congress has alleged that she was arrested yesterday while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

She also shared a video that showed a group of protesting farmers being mowed down by an SUV. However, the video does not verify the claims being made by the Opposition that Ashish was behind the wheel. The authenticity of the viral video being shared widely on social media platforms is yet to be verified.

 “@narendramodi ji your government has detained me for the past 28 hours without any order or FIR. Why the person who ran over farmers has not been arrested yet?” she said in a tweet in Hindi.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh had also shared a viral video of the incident. Another video that was doing the rounds on the social media platforms show protesting farmers thrashing a person, believed to the driver of Ashish’s vehicle, and forcing to make a confession. 



Meanwhile, Congress supporters continue to protest outside the PAC guest house in Sitapur where the party leader is allegedly detained.
As many as eight people died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident on Sunday, said Uttar Pradesh police. “Four farmers and four others have died (in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident). Probe underway. It’s an unfortunate incident, should not be politicised,” Lakhimpur Kheri District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Chaurasiya told reporters.
Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) issued a statement regarding the incident claiming the death of four farmers and alleged that one of the four farmers was shot dead by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son, while the others have been allegedly run over by the vehicles of his convoy.
Meanwhile, refuting SKM’s allegations, MoS Teni said that his son was not present at the spot, adding that some miscreants merged with protesting farmers and pelted the stones on the car which lead to the ‘unfortunate incident’.
