PM Modi meets German Chancellor Angela Merkel on sidelines of G20 Summit

Rome [Italy] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met the German Chancellor Angela Markel on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Italy.
Chancellor Merkel is preparing to hand over power to a new coalition leader in Germany. She was the first woman Chancellor from the conservative party and has been the Chancellor for 16 years from 2005 to 2021. Earlier in August, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Merkel where they discussed the unfolding security situation in Afghanistan and its implications on the region and the world.
The two leaders also discussed issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in COVID-19 vaccines, development cooperation with a focus on climate and energy, and fostering trade and economic relations.


PM Modi today visited the Trevi Fountain on the second day of the G20 Summit in Rome along with several heads of the states.
On Saturday, PM Modi met various leaders including Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
PM Modi had a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican City which lasted for an hour and invited him to visit India.
The Prime Minister arrived in Italy on Friday to participate in the two-day G20 Summit.
The theme of this G20 meet under the Italian Presidency is centered around ‘People, Planet and Prosperity.’

PM Modi meets Indonesian President Joko Widodo on G20 summit sidelines

Rome [Italy] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Rome on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
The two leaders had a telephonic conversation in April 2020 when Joko Widodo appreciated the facilitation provided by the Indian Government for supplies of pharmaceutical products to Indonesia. During the conversation, the two leaders discussed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the region and the world.


Earlier in the day, PM Modi also met outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron.

PM Modi, UK counterpart to meet in Glasgow: Indian envoy

Glasgow [UK] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Boris Johnson will be meeting at the upcoming 26th session of the Conference of Parties (COP-26) in Glasgow.
“This will be a multilateral event but this will be an opportunity for prime ministers of India and UK to sit together and review the implementation, the progress that had been made on the roadmap 2030 in May 2021,” High Commissioner of India to UK Gaitri Issar Kumar said during an interview with ANI. “And a lot has happened since then, in trade and finance and defence and security sectors. We will have the opportunity to talk about regional and global issues of shared interest, particularly in the health care sector, about mutual recognition of vaccine certification on both sides and of course climate action,” the high commissioner added.
Meanwhile, India and the UK are also announcing a joint declaration on ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’.
“This will be a very important initiative launch under the solar alliance. And it is important that how would we like the international community to view this,” Kumar said.
The idea of “One Sun, One World, One Grid” (henceforth OSOWOG) made its first appearance on a global platform when the idea was floated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the first assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Invest India informed.
The initiative is aimed at constructing a trans-national electricity grid that would supply electricity across the globe in a phased manner. The plan of OSOWOG is a step towards achieving a more sustainable source of electricity generation that uses solar power as a source of continuous renewable energy, taking forward the global goal of sustainable development, Invest India said.
“We feel that this is a wonderful way for the willing nations to partner in capturing solar energy and sharing it. This will probably be ready by 2022,” the Indian envoy added during her interview with ANI.
Meanwhile, the COP-26 will be held from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow under the Presidency of the UK partnering with Italy. The high-level segment of COP-26 is titled the World Leaders’ Summit (WLS).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi — who is in Rome — will travel to Glasgow to attend the World Leader’s Summit of the COP-26 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson.

Rome: PM Modi, Spanish counterpart discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties

Rome [Italy] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit here on Sunday and discussed ways to deepen ties between India and Spain.
In a tweet, Prime Minister’s Office said that the two nations are cooperating extensively in areas such as trade, energy, innovation and more. “In Rome, PM @narendramodi met the Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. @sanchezcastejon. Both leaders had fruitful talks on ways to deepen ties between India and Spain. The two nations are cooperating extensively in areas such as trade, energy, innovation and more,” PMO tweeted.
PM Modi is in Rome to attend the G20 summit. He has held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. On Saturday, he met French President Emmanuel Macron and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Meanwhile, the G20 summit was kicked off on Saturday. The second day of the G20 started with a walk of the Heads of Delegation in one of the symbolic places of the historic downtown: Trevi Fountain.
Thereafter, PM Modi attended the session on Climate Change and Environment on Sunday.
Afterwards, the G20 Heads of Delegation gathered at the Convention Center La Nuvola for a side event and two working sessions.
Later today, Prime Minister is expected to hold a meeting with outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Convention Center La Nuvola in Rome will then host both the multilateral sessions and the bilateral meetings of the Leaders. Today’s engagement also includes a working session on Sustainable Development.
The Summit will end with the traditional final press conference by Prime Minister Mario Draghi who, opening the meeting yesterday, highlighted that “multilateralism is the best answer to the problems we face today.

G20: PM Modi invites Spain to invest in India

Rome [Italy] : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited Spain to invest in India and take advantage of India’s National Infrastructure Pipeline, Asset Monetization Plan and the Gati Shakti Plan.
The developments as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit and discussed ways to deepen ties between both countries. “PM Modi invited Spain to invest in various sectors including Green Hydrogen, infrastructure and defence manufacturing and further take advantage of India’s National Infrastructure Pipeline, Asset Monetization Plan and the Gati Shakti Plan,” the Ministry of External Affairs informed in a statement.
The two leaders also discussed India-EU relations as well as cooperation on climate action and priorities at the upcoming COP26. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest including Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific, the statement said.
The National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) is a first-of-its-kind, whole-of-government exercise to provide world-class infrastructure to citizens and improve their quality of life, Invest India informed.
The project aims to improve project preparation and attract investments into infrastructure.
Besides, the Asset Monetisation Plan is concerned with shifting from ‘privatization’ and ‘slump sale’ of assets to ‘structured partnerships’ with the private sector within defined contractual frameworks, Niti Aayog informed.
Meanwhile, during the G20 Summit in Rome, PM Modi also attended the session on Climate Change and Environment.
Later today, Prime Minister is expected to hold a meeting with outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
