Hyderabad(India): Vaishnavi Veera Vamsam, who just won the Silver at the under 15, surges ahead in the Olympic Class Laser Radial class with 5 wins out of 6 races at the second day of the Hyderabad sailing week champion held at here on Monday.
Vaishnavi of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad chose to participate in the Olympic Class with the hope of qualifying for the Asian Games in 2022.
In the absence of Olympian Nethra Kumanan who missed the championship and trials as she had to visit the Prime Minister at a function, Vaishnavi at just 15 years cashed in and is heading for a convincing gold medal
She will however need to sail with Nethra in the next set of trials and that looks like a tough act to follow given her lack of experience in the Laser class as this is her first championship .
“ Vaishnavi May get two medals in two different classes and I cannot be more proud of her efforts “ , said her coach Suheim Sheikh.
Day 2 at Hyderabad Sailing Week, Laser sailors had a pleasant day as there was no respite from strong winds. Wind was ranging from 08-10 knots and was gusting up to 15 knots.
The lake proved true to its name Hussain Sagar as with the gusting winds one could easily spot waves and sea horses.
In the Laser Std class category, it was a thrilling fight between Deepak Kumar Saini and Mohit Saini.
Deepak Kumar Saini covered up the lead as he got one gun position in race 4 but Israj Ali is still in lead as he got a gun in race 6.
In Laser 4.7 Class, Chunnu Kumar covered up the lead as he got one gun position in race 4 but Ritika Dangi is still in lead as he got two guns in race 5 & 6.
In the Laser Radial (Men) category, there was an exciting fight amongst Rammilan Yadav, Sikhanshu Singh and Awnish Yadav.
Finally Rammilan Yadav got a gun position in race 4, Shikanshu Singh got a gun position in race 5 while Awnish Yadav got a gun position in race 6.
