Puducherry reports 80 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

Puducherry, Aug 27: The Union Territory of Puducherry reported 80 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending at 10 AM on Friday taking the tally of infection to 1,23,231.

No deaths were reported during the period and thus the death toll remained at 1809. 73 new cases were reported here on Thursday.

According to the status report of COVID-19 released by the health department, of the 2,991 swab tests taken on Thursday, 80 people tested positive for the virus. 48 new cases were reported in Puducherry region,14 in Karaikal, three in Yanam and 15 in Mahe regions. 79 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours, 36 of them were from Puducherry region, four from Karaikal, 5 from Yanam and 34 from Mahe regions.

Presently, 116 people are being treated in Puducherry region, 21 each in Karaikal and Mahe region and two in Yanam region. Another, 608 positive cases are under home isolation in all the four regions of the union territory.

So far, 123231 persons have been infected by the virus out of which 120,654 have been treated and discharged and 1,809 have died leaving 768 positive cases here.

The test positivity rate in the UT stood at 2.67 percent, case fatality rate 1.47 percent and recovery rate 97.91 percent.

As many as 795.826 people including health care workers, frontline workers and the general public have so far been vaccinated against COVID in the union territory.
