NGO writes to PM, seeks permission to adopt Afghani students

Pune, Aug 21: Pune-based Sarhad, an NGO, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking permission and co-operation for adopting distressed Afghani students for their education.
The NGO has been striving for peace in India’s bordering states since last thirty years. “We, though on small scale, have worked for Afghani students for providing them higher education since 2008,” it said.
“The present situation occurred in Afghanistan worries us and hence we have decided to extend our helping hand to the students stranded in India and to the refugees with help of ‘Sri Guru Tegbahadur ji 400th Prakash Purab-2021’ committee established to celebrate Guru Tegbahadur’s martyrdom, who had sacrificed his life for the rehabilitation and safety of Kashmiri pundits,” it stated.
Sarhad wishes and have capacity to adopt 1,00 Afghani students and refugees to take care of their education and livelihood till the situation improves back their home, said Sanjay Nahar, founder president of Sarhad.

He continued, “We seek central government’s assistance in selection of such students and refugees
those can be provided with necessary help, Nahar said in his letter. Since, the Afghan issue has become explosive and internationally politically sensitive, without government’s permission and assistance in selection, the humanitarian work we want to undertake cannot materialise.”
“In fact the help from Indian NGO to the distressed Afghani students and refugees can set an example of India’s broader humanitarian perspective. Also this work will be a suiting tribute to Sri Guru Tegbahadur ji’s martyrdom to preserve humanity,” he remarked.
“We humbly request you to allow us to undertake this task of adoption of the Afghan students and refugees and appoint a representative for the selection process. We assure you that we will endeavour to preserve pride and dignity of our nation,” read the letter written to the Centre.
