Kerala reports 20,452 new COVID cases, 16,856 recoveries says CM Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (India): Kerala recorded 20,452 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Friday while 16,856 patients recovered from the disease, State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

In a statement issued here on Friday evening, the CM said: “Total 1,42,501 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) was 14.35 per cent. A total of 2,91,95,758 samples have been sent for testing till this day.”

Meanwhile, 114 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 18,394.

Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 8 at 634 wards under 87 Local Self Governments (LSGs) where strict restriction is being imposed.

In the last 24 hours, Covid was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus.
