‘Vellam, The Essential Drink’ helmed by Prajesh Sen revolved around Murali, a man with substance abuse. Although many Malayalam movies have been made around the topic of alcoholic people in the past, ‘Vellam’ delved deep into the emotional, mental, social, societal struggles such individuals deal with.

Meanwhile, this also marks Jayasurya’s second state award. The actor has previously won in 2018 for his performances in ‘Captain’, which was directed by Prajesh Sen and ‘Njan Marrykutty’ helmed by Ranjith Sankar.
